The LRHS Mustangs hope to build on 2018’s success.

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – On Wednesday, the LRHS baseball program completed three days of tryouts.

A total of 37 players were chosen to represent this year’s baseball program; 18 on junior varsity (JV) and 19 on varsity.

The varsity squad consists of six seniors, nine juniors, and four sophomores.

Head Coach Ryan Kennedy is very excited about the upcoming season, “There were a lot of good players at tryouts this week, but I think the guys we chose will help us succeed the most this year.

“We have a very talented team,” Kennedy added. “The senior class is very experienced, and I am expecting them to be good leaders. We have high expectations for the entire team this year.”

Baseball practice began Thursday.

Florida State University signee and LRHS senior Grant McCray said, “I love our chances this year. We have a group of guys that all want the same thing: a state championship. Last year was a lot of fun, but I know we can make it past the regional semis.”

The Mustangs first game is set for Tuesday, Feb. 26, as they face off against Berkley Preparatory at home. First pitch is at 6 p.m.
