Brady Roberts – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- Thursday night the LRHS boys basketball team defeated the Manatee High School Hurricanes by a final score of 60-37.
“It was nice to win another district game,” said LRHS junior Christian Shaneyfelt,
“however we can’t let it distract us there is still a lot of season left to be played.”
The last time LRHS lost a district game was to Braden River in Dec. 2014.
LRHS head basketball coach Jeremy Schiller commented on the district win streak, “I think true success is about being great consistently, not just in one moment. I am very proud of our program to have maintained focus to become undefeated in the district four straight years.”
With the win over Manatee, the Mustangs improve their overall record to 16-5 and 10-0 against district opponents.
The next game for the Mustangs will be this Saturday, Feb. 2 against the Booker Tornados.
Over the past couple years LRHS and Booker have been the best two teams in the area.
“We are excited about playing a talented team,” said Schiller. “There should be a lot of energy since at this point in time they are the best team in Sarasota county, and we are the best team in Manatee county.”
LRHS senior Joshua Young agreed with Schiller, “This is a big game for us. We don’t just want to be the best team in Manatee County, we want to make it clear we are the best team in both counties.”
