Sports(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Tuesday, the Mustang boys varsity soccer team beat the Sarasota Sailors 5-0 in the district semifinal game.

The soccer team will now advance to the district finals Thursday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. They will face Riverview High School at home.

Mustang seniors Wilmer Yanes and Alex Thompson both scored, with Yanes scoring three goals and Thompson scoring two.

Senior Travis Freeman said, “I thought we played well as a team yesterday. Took us a while to start playing like ourselves but once we got going it wasn’t looking good as far as a comeback for the other team. That game was a good game as far as a confidence booster for Thursday’s game.”

Head coach Vito Bavaro said, “I’m looking forward to the road ahead and winning a state title.”

This year is the seventh year in a row that the boys soccer team will advance to the district final.
