Brady Roberts – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- Tuesday night the LRHS boys’ varsity basketball team defeated district opponent Venice High School Indians 79-41.
LRHS pulled away early and never let off the gas, holding a 29-point lead at halftime.
“I was really proud of our whole team for staying locked in and focused for the entire game,” said LRHS junior Keon Buckley. “Sometimes it can be difficult for a team to stay focused the entire game when you are up by a lot of points.”
Buckley also mentioned how it speaks to the team’s overall maturity.
With the win over Venice, LRHS moves its overall record to 15-5 and 9-0 against district opponents.
LRHS has not lost a district game since Dec. 2014.
“I’m proud of our growth throughout the season. We have a group of guys that are always trying to get better,” said LRHS head coach Jeremy Schiller.
Schiller said wins and losses aren’t as important as improving every day.
The next game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., Jan. 30 at Manatee High School. This will be the final regular season district matchup for LRHS.
LRHS senior Logan Higgins commented on the district win streak, “It is very important to this team to keep the district win streak going. It really speaks to the focus and maturity of the program over these past five years.
“I will be looking forward to taking another step forward against Manatee,” said Schiller. “Every practice and every game, we’ve been doing a really good job of that.”
Schiller also looks forward to being 10-0 in the district for the fourth straight year.
