Sports(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- Last Friday the LRHS boys’ varsity basketball team played in an away game against district opponent Palmetto High School Tigers, coming home with a 55-33 win.

With the win over Palmetto, the Mustangs improve their overall record to 14-5 while being 8-0 against district opponents.

LRHS junior Keon Buckley commented on the win, “It is an awesome feeling being this deep into the season and still being undefeated in the district. This shows how much our hard work from the summer is paying off.”

The win helped the Mustangs clinch the number one seed in the district playoffs.

This will be the fifth year LRHS has earned the number one seed in the district and head basketball coach Jeremy Schiller commented on the accomplishment, “I’m really happy for this group to have earned such a big honor.”

Schiller also wanted to give credit to the program’s consistency for being the one seed for five years.

The next game is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 28 against Venice High School.

This will be a district game played at home, with the game starting at 7:30.

“I am really excited to play in front of our home crowd again,” said Schiller. “That has been one of the most fun experiences this season.”

Schiller also said he is looking forward to staying undefeated in the district.

LRHS senior Logan Higgins agreed with Schiller, “It is important to this team to keep the undefeated streak in the district going. LRHS has not lost a district game since Dec. 2014 and we really want to keep that streak alive.”
