NEWS(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – LRHS athletic director Shaw Trent is leaving LRHS to become the athletic director (AD) at the county’s new high school.

This fall the School District of Manatee County will be opening its latest high school on the north side of the Manatee River. For their first the school will only be for freshmen and sophomores.

Trent has been at LRHS for 14 years. He started off as a math teacher and football coach. He was the football coach for nine years and became AD 12 years ago.

According to Trent, “I decided to work at the new high school because it was a good time in my career for a change. The challenge of opening a new school also sounds fun and exciting. Not many people get to open a school and become one of the people that starts and establishes traditions that could last for generations. ”

As an AD, Trent makes sure all the athletes are academically eligible, schedules events, manages the games, and evaluates coaches.

Trent stated, “I am going to miss the staff the most. I want to thank all the administration, teachers, and students for all their hard work to make this one of the best schools anywhere.”

LRHS testing coordinator and assistant coach Jeffery Simmons said, “I have worked with Trent for nine years and he has helped guide me in my football and professional career. Now that he is leaving it’s like losing a mentor that built an awesome athletic program.”
