Christian Marrero – Mustangs Ahead

NEWS(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- Five LRHS Mustangs have been recognized All-County Chorus members.  All-County Chorus is a group of select middle and high school choral students from Manatee and Sarasota county.

The LRHS students who will be participating in the All County Chorus are seniors Calissa Foege and Julia Gennocro and juniors Morgan Kirchman, Ariana Otero and Darrien Shelp.

The singers will be presenting the Inaugural Manasota Honors Choir Jan. 19 in the SCF Neel Performing Arts Center.

Kirchman said the auditions were demanding.

“Singers were given five songs to learn; two of the pieces were used to audition with,” she said. “Everyone was given roughly two weeks to learn the songs before they had to audition.”

Auditions had to be recorded by their choir director and the students had to sing a set of vocal warmups and then the selected excerpts from the two announced audition songs.

Once the elected group of performers was announced, the singers were tasked with learning the rest of the music on their own time. On Friday, Jan. 18 the entire choir rehearsed together at SCF after school.

On Saturday, they will spend the day at SCF in rehearsals. After a day of practicing and perfecting the songs, the choir will perform at 6 p.m. in the SCF Neel Performing Arts Center for parents, family, and any guests.

The songs for the high school performance are Ezekiel Saw De Wheel by William L. Dawson, Spread Thy Voice Around by George F. Handel, Bridge Over Troubled Water by Paul Simon, Sing We and Chant It but Thomas Morley, and Choose Something Like a Star by Randall Thompson.
