Brady Roberts – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- With exam week officially here the LRHS boys’ varsity basketball didn’t have much time to study after a busy weekend.
The boys played a game Friday against Palmetto and then Saturday against The First Academy (TFA) from Orlando.
The team ended up winning both games, beating Palmetto with a final score of 62-47 and beating TFA with a final score of 55-53.
The game against TFA was played at Windemere Preparatory High School in a shootout tournament. This is the third year in a row that the Mustangs have been invited to this tournament.
Palmetto was also the first home game of the regular season, and the fans packed “the stable.”
LRHS senior Alex Baron said, “The first home game of my senior season was one to remember. I love playing in front of my friends and family. We are definitely going to need our fans to keep this up the whole season.”
After this weekend, the team is 4-0 and ranked 16th in the state and 410th in the nation.
LRHS head varsity basketball coach Jeremy Schiller said, “It feels great being 4-0. I was proud of our team for picking up wins against Palmetto and TFA this past weekend, however we still have a lot of work to do this season to improve.”
Schiller said the state ranking is a result of their hard work.
“Being 4-0 is an amazing feeling,” said LRHS senior Joshua Young. “This team has really competed over these first four games of the season, but we still have major goals left to accomplish this season.”
The next game will be at home against Sarasota on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. This game will be the annual Ugly Holiday Sweater game, with a $100 Nike certificate being awarded at halftime.
