Isabella Estrada – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – For many students, the thought of travailing across the world to go to school seems impossible. For LRHS junior Ludovico Fiorese that is his everyday life.
Fiorese is originally from a small town near Venice, Italy called Bassano del Grappa.
With the help of an Italian cultural exchange program he is currently living with a host family in Bradenton. Fiorese will continue to attend LRHS until the end of the school year.
Though Fiorese has only been in Florida for a couple of months he has already discovered some major differences. He said that the buildings and roads were a lot bigger, and everyone is a lot louder.
“The most different thing for me is the school,” Fiorese said. “I used to go to school in an old castle. In Italy we also go to school 6 days a week, from Monday to Saturday. Another big difference is that we go to high school for 5 years and it’s all based on academic courses.”
Though this is a big change, Fiorese is really enjoying it here. He said, “I really like it here because everybody is really nice and is willing to help out”. With the help of his friends and host family, Fiorese was able to easily adapt to his new home.
Fiorese also really enjoys the teachers at LRHS. He said, “All of my teachers are really nice and are willing to help explain things to me when I don’t understand.”
Many of his teachers are also enjoying having him in the classroom. French teacher Corrine Battani said, “He is great in class and very eager to learn. The whole class is also able to learn more about student exchange and cultural differences”.
Fiorese is loving his time in Florida and doesn’t want to leave. He said that he has already learned so much and can’t wait to keep learning more.
