(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Tuesday night the LRHS boys varsity basketball team beat the Venice Indians in their first district matchup of the season. The game was played at Venice High School, marking the boys’ second road game of the season.

After the 74-60-win, the Mustangs currently stand 2-0 on the season.

LRHS head varsity basketball coach Jeremy Schiller  said, “I’m proud of the fact that we found a way to win by double digits in both of our first regular season matchups. However, we don’t judge our performance by score, we judge it by how we played.

“The team has a lot of room for growth,” said Schiller.

LRHS senior Joshua Young agreed with Schiller, “It feels good to start the season off 2-0, but we still have a lot of work to do.”

The next game will be this Friday, Dec. 14 against Palmetto High School.  This will be another district matchup for LRHS.

This game will also be the first regular season home game and the LRHS 20th Anniversary Celebration game.

The student section is always something to look forward to during boys’ basketball home games. LRHS junior Keon Buckley said, “I can’t wait to see our crowd again because I know how excited they get and how excited we get when they are there. The crowd doesn’t show the other team any mercy which boosts our confidence in games.”

During the Palmetto home game, Schiller is looking for an opportunity to perform at a high level in front of the home crowd.

Schiller also stressed the importance to find some consistency as a team.
