Madison Cartano – Mustang Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- The LRHS Silver Stars Dance Team has been practicing for the upcoming Universal Dance Association (UDA) national competition. This will be held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida beginning on Feb. 1, 2019.
The team practices their competition routines every Tuesday and Thursday. They have even held extra practices on weekends to perfect the dances.
The Silver Stars have also set up fundraisers to raise money for this trip. They have had one at Crowder’s Ace Hardware on Lakewood Ranch Blvd. and will soon have one at a local Culver’s Restaurant.
At each practice, the team goes over each dance to make sure it is competition ready. They will be competing one pom routine, one jazz routine, and one “game day” routine.
Freshman Hanna Whalers said, “I am so excited to go to nationals because it will be my first time and I think it will be a great experience.” She explained that she cannot wait to watch the most well-known teams compete in the finals.
“Nationals is always a blast. I love spending time with my teammates and becoming closer as a team while we are there,” stated junior Hana Tomik.
To practice performing their routines, they will be dancing at several of the home basketball games. This will help them to feel comfortable doing these dances in front of a crowd.
“I am nervous, but I think all of our practice will pay off in the end,” said freshman Morgan Aberg.
The team’s constant effort and determination will hopefully take them far in the competition.
