Emma Brooks– Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – As the end of the semester quickly approaches, the LRHS National Honor Society (NHS) is coordinating several events for members to complete their first semester volunteer hours.
Hours are due on Dec. 10, and members are required to turn in at least 12 hours to remain in the club.
“I am almost done with getting all of my hours, I have one more event to complete and I will have reached the 12-hour mark,” said senior Dee Evans.
Many events are coming up soon to provide opportunities for last minute hours.
- McNeal Elementary is allowing students to assist in their after-school child care program on Nov. 30, where they watch and play with children.
- Teacher Help is also available after school on Nov. 29. Members will be assigned to a teacher and complete various errands and tasks for them for an hour after school.
- Another opportunity is the LRHS chorus concert on Dec. 6. Members will be helping run the chorus concert, including setting up the stage, handing out refreshments, and passing out fliers.
- The final event available is Sledding with Santa on Dec. 8. Members will need to help set-up, tear-down, and manage holiday themed booths. Students will receive 3 hours from participating in this event.
NHS member, junior Anna Shelby Dees said, “I volunteered at McNeal a few weeks ago and it was one of my favorite events to participate in, I loved hanging out with the kids.”
NHS parliamentarian Manoela Dos Santos warned, “It’s important for members to get their hours in, if not there will be consequences in the near future.”
