Shea Murphy – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- Dartmouth, Miami University (in Ohio), and the University of North Florida (UNF) are among the top schools in the country. LRHS senior Johnny Reid has been accepted to all these high-ranking schools and others.
Dartmouth has an acceptance rate of only 11 percent, Miami Ohio accepts 70 percent while only 24 percent choose to go to school there, and at UNF only 53 percent were accepted.
Reid has not officially picked where he will be going to school yet but has been hinted that he has made up his mind about a prestigious Ivy League school and will officially announce soon.
It’s hardly surprising that Reid was accepted into these top schools, he has a weighted grade-point average (GPA) of 4.5 and an unweighted average of 4.0. When interviewed by Ryan Kohl, from the Bradenton Observer, he said that his favorite subject was math.
On Sept. 11, 2017 Reid ran the fourth-fastest cross-country time (16:21.7) in the Florida High School Athletic Association’s (FHSAA) Class 4A competition. Reid told Kohl e hopes to keep improving and get his time down to the 15:00.0’s.
Reid ran cross-country and track all four years of high school. However, he played basketball when he was younger and played on the LRHS junior varsity team his freshman and sophomore years.
Reid said, “I enjoy the satisfaction of putting in the work and finishing a race knowing that all of your hard work has paid off…it is self-fulfilling.”
