Rachel Monroe- Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) -Junior Claire Davidson, an LRHS softball and academic stand-out, moved from Alexandria, Virginia to Lakewood Ranch over the summer. Davidson said she is adjusting well to the new school, making lots of new friends, and really enjoying her classes.
“The biggest change for me so far has been the weather. Softball is also a lot more competitive down here. Although I’ll miss parts of the colder weather in Virginia, I am looking forward to having the opportunity to play softball year-round because it won’t get too cold,” said Davidson.
Softball has been a big part of Davidson’s life ever since she was five years old. Davidson is a very skilled left-handed pitcher and is verbally committed to play softball at Auburn University after high school.
She also plays for a highly competitive travel softball team; the Tampa Mustangs, who travel the country to play some of the most prestigious tournaments in the United States.
Along with pushing herself at softball, Davidson challenges herself in the classroom as well by taking challenging courses. After high school, Davidson plans to attend Auburn University.
“I’m committed to Auburn because I love the atmosphere of the school, the competition that I will get playing at an SEC school, and the coaching staff and other commits,” she said.
Last year, the LRHS softball team made it all the way to the state semi- finals, and this year Davidson hopes to lead the Mustangs to that state title they’ve been so close in past years.
