Shafer said that the club will “provide students with opportunities to build community and friendship, nurture critical thinking and strategy skills, develop sportsmanship, and community service and outreach through a shared passion for gaming.”

Students in the club will have many opportunities to learn, play, teach, review, and compete in chess and other tabletop strategy games that will help them build character.

The club’s current activities include their regular meetings and “open play” gatherings where club members and prospective members play a wide variety of games. The club is currently planning other service projects.

The games played vary from chess, “Scrabble” and “Monopoly,” to newer games like “Pandemic,” “Coup”, and “Smash-up.”

To join the club, Mustnags need to pick up a membership form from room 219, attend the meetings, pay a $10 donation fee and play fair. The club meets every Friday from 2:30-4:00 pm in room 219.
