Sports(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS girls weightlifting season is right around the corner, starting 4 p.m., Nov. 27 at home against Southeast. This year’s team goal is to get at least one of the girls to compete in states. No girl has advanced yet in LRHS girls weight team to states, but they are working hard after school every day to get stronger to achieve the goal.

Last year senior Maddie Koczersut, junior Hailey Whalers and senior Emily Hughes qualified for regionals and are looking to go farther their senior year. The girls compete based off clean and jerk and bench-press lifts. The Mustangs are conditioning after school every day, having a workout plan to complete to prepare for their meets.

“Advancing to regionals last year set a bar for my expectations but knowing I am now in competition,” Koczersut said, “I am looking to go farther and grind hard my last year here.”

Whalers stated, “Being strong is over powering and that’s what I like, coming into season having the mindset I can make it far is going to push me harder to make me know I can go even farther,”

Hughes agreed that senior year is a chance to push her athletic limits.

“I am excited for the season to push myself harder. I want to be the one to set the bar, so I can leave this year, my last year, knowing I pushed myself as hard as I could,” she said.
