Madison Aker– Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- This year, LRHS announced the formation of the Astronomy Club.
Sophomore William Flood is the founder of the club.
“I realized that there is not a lot of clubs or teams that focus on astronomy,” Flood said. “So, I decided to present the idea and find a sponsor. Plus, it is a good way to promote the school and help students continue to pursue their interests.”
Astronomy Club is a place where students can meet and talk about what exactly is happening in space and apply it to mathematics, physics, and chemistry. Flood added, “We will also focus on how to look through a telescope and events and things that are happening in space and the universe as a whole.”
Science teacher Elizabeth Coody is the sponsor for the astronomy club.
“As a sponsor I oversee all of the paperwork as well as any administrative work,” she said.
Flood is very excited and anticipates the growth of the club.
“Well, since we are a new club, we have not started anything too extreme yet, just the beginning process of putting everything together,” he said. “But we plan to have a guest speaker from the planetarium and eventually build a telescope.”
There are no requirements to join, so anyone interested can talk to Flood or go to room 618 to get a membership form.
