Jacob Pipercic – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Tuesday the LRHS varsity boys’ soccer team defeated the Braden River Pirates with a score of 2-0 in the first preseason game of the year.
The first goal came in the first half, off the foot of junior Jacob Jordan. Senior captain Travis Freeman picked up the assist.
Jordan was excited after scoring his first varsity goal, “It felt good to help my team win, especially in a big rivalry game.”
The Mustangs’ second goal came soon after when fellow junior Alex Rincon found the back of the net early in the second half.
Freeman said, “It was great to go out and get the win. We have been preparing for the season for a while now and this is just the start of something great.”
Fellow captain senior Alex Thompson was thrilled after the Mustangs’ shutout.
“Obviously Braden River is our biggest rival, so we were really pumped to get out there and play them. Both goals were exciting last night, and I cannot wait for the regular season to start,” he said.
The Mustangs next preseason game is Wednesday at home versus Palmetto. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
“We have a good group of guys this year,” said Mustang head coach Vito Bavaro. “Everybody has been working hard and I know the team is capable of doing big things. We have won six straight district championships and I feel this group will give us a great chance to capture number seven.”
The boys open the regular season Tuesday, Nov. 13 at North Port.
