Sports(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)-  Saturday, 16 LRHS swimmers competed at the Regional Championships.

“It was a very large meet (700+ swimmers) and an incredibly fast meet this year. All our swimmers did a great job and several even posted personal best times. I could not be prouder of all they have accomplished,” said head coach, Julie Santiago.

All six relays showed improvements in time from the week prior and most who competed achieved personal best. LRHS even had a regional champion in the 100 fly, senior Sebastian Aguirre.

“I love this sport because there are no judges who decide the winner; it’s all about who reaches the wall first,” said Aguirre.  “I train my hardest in practice every day and seeing the one next to my name on the scoreboard just proves to me that all my hard work is paying off.”

Sophomore Natalie Mount said, “It was a great experience competing since it was my first time qualifying for Regionals. Everyone was extremely fast, and it was amazing to get the opportunity to race against them.”

Of the 16 who competed, six qualified for State Championships.
