Christian Marrero– Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – LRHS’s annual Mayors’ Feed the Hungry food drive started Monday.
The food drive is sponsored by LRHS Quill and Scroll, and they are collecting packaged and canned foods to give to the less fortunate during Thanksgiving. Mustangs can turn in donations to their first period classes until Nov. 15.
Quill and Scroll is a journalism honor society.
The first period class that collects the most food will win a donut and juice party hosted by Quill and Scroll sponsor and LRHS English teacher Candice Delazzer.
Items being collected include canned items such as soups, meats, vegetables as well as packaged foods such as rice, noodles, cereal, and other unopened items.
Delazzer said, “Even if every first period had their students bring in only one can per week (two cans total), we could donate around 5,000 items!”
Math teacher Meghan Sugalski is usually among the school’s most active participants.
“I feel it’s important as citizens to give back to the community,” she said. “I also believe it is important to give back throughout the year and to organizations that you like. That’s why I believe it is so important to participate in the Mayor’s Feed the Hungry food drive.”
