Bella Sellmer – Mustangs ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Tuesday, Oct. 30, the Lady Mustangs played their last volleyball game of the season.
The girls played at Venice High School for the regional semi-final game. The girls fought hard to stay in the running, but in the end lost 0-3.
Overall, the girls’ varsity volleyball team had a successful season, finishing second in the district and making it into the top 16 class 8A teams in the state.
Coach Perri Hankins said, “I just want to congratulate our girls. We accomplished all the goals we had this season.”
Hankins added that the team hadn’t gone this deep in the state playoffs since 2014, when they were regional champions.
“It’s good to see the program building up and heading in the right direction,” she said.
This was the last high school volleyball game for seniors Maddie Koczersut, Bella Sellmer, Jordan Schmucker, and Calissa Foege.
Foege said, “I think our season went really well and I am extremely proud of how far we went in postseason. I loved playing with this team, and I am sad the season has now come to an end.”
Koczersut said, “I am so proud of all the girls on the team. We did extremely well this season and I think it was a good way to finish out the season. I will miss playing with my friends and I hope all the underclassman have a great season next year.”
Schmucker said, “I am going to miss everyone on the team this year. Being on varsity volleyball all four years was an experience I will never forget. I was happy to end the season on such a good note and I wish the best for the team next year.”
