NEWS(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- The LRHS United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) club will partner with Gilbert W. McNeal Elementary school to raise money for UNICEF.

Every Halloween UNICEF holds a Trick or Treat event to raise money for the organization. They distribute boxes to children who collect money from their homes, families and neighborhoods.

All the change collected from the boxes will go towards funding the less privileged children suffering in developing countries.

The UNICEF club will be giving the boxes to the McNeal kindergarten grade class. Every kindergartener will be given a box. In the end, the class with the most money raised from the event will receive a pizza party thrown by the club.

The boxes were passed out Oct. 24 and students are scheduled to turn them in on Nov. 2.

The boxes bring back a sense of nostalgia for teachers as well, who also collected UNICEF donations. Now, they get to see the younger generation do the same.

The kindergarteners will help kids their age around the world.

“I’m excited to see how this turns out since it’s our first year partnering up with an elementary school for this event,” said UNICEF historian junior Kira Littlejohn.  “The kids will have an early experience of helping those in need at such a young age. I look forward to seeing how much they have raised for UNICEF,”
