(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – This past Saturday the girls’ and boys’ varsity cross-country teams competed in district championships at GT Bray Park.
The teams competed against 10 other schools for a chance to qualify for regionals this upcoming Saturday. Only the top three qualified for regionals.
The girls team placed second overall with three runners placing in the top 15. Top girl’s runner, sophomore Riley Bradshaw placed sixth with a time of 20:22. While the boys team placed third with senior Johnny Reid taking second with a time of 16:17.
This upcoming weekend both the girls and boys teams will compete in Punta Gorda for regionals. Teams will compete to secure a spot at states as the top six teams will advance.
Bradshaw described her race, “This past weekend was a whirlwind for me, I didn’t expect to have such a good race and getting sixth place really helped boost my confidence for these next series races. Coming off with such a strong finish is getting me more excited for regionals, I really think the girls and I can make it to states.”
Senior Gino Navas is excited and nervous about the upcoming week. Navas said, “Going into regionals we are right on the border for making it to states. This week is going to be really interesting as we get closer to race day because everyone needs to be in tip top shape. We’ve been working so hard these last couple weeks that I’m hopeful that we will be able to squeeze into that sixth spot.”
