LRHS will host its second blood drive Oct. 26

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- On Friday, Oct. 26, LRHS will be host its second blood drive the year.

Donating blood is a great way to help those in need, since donations are always in need. Everyone that is eligible should consider donating.

Besides the satisfaction of helping others, there are personal benefits to donating blood. According to OneBlood, the company that organizes the donations, donating improves health by reducing excess iron in the donor’s body and encourages the body to produce blood.

The American Red Cross has stated that each donation of blood can potentially save up to three lives.

Students will be able to register for the blood drive during their lunch periods, and volunteers will have to have a waiver signed by their parents. Before their donations, participants will have to fill out a medical questionnaire and a mini physical examination.

LRHS blood drive committee president junior Claudia Estevez, said, “I’m really excited for this blood drive because I feel that it will run smoother, and that we will get more donors since last time we didn’t get as many volunteers due to picture day.”

Senior Julianna Catena volunteered last year and said that she was happy that she was contributing to a great cause and hopes to donate blood again sometime soon.

“The thing to keep in mind is that it’s for a great cause and someone can really benefit from it,” said Catena.

People that are interested in volunteering can text @2019blood to 81010.
