Hayes DuJardin – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – This week is National School Lunch Week in schools throughout the country.
According to the School Nutrition Association (SNA), “President John F. Kennedy created National School Lunch Week (NSLW) in 1962. During this annual week-long celebration, SNA members and students around the country celebrate in their cafeterias with decorations, special menus, events, and more.”
This year’s theme is “Lots to Love.” While LRHS has chosen to stick with their normal lunch menu, they have added heart shaped pretzels with cheese sauce and red jello to the menu.
LRHS cafeteria manager Caroline Henderson believes school lunches are incredibly valuable to students. Henderson said, “You’re here all day long, so it’s important that you have this period of the day where you can refresh and nourish yourself. It’s also incredibly inexpensive.”
The school lunch offered at the Ranch is also appreciated by students. Junior Chris Georgas said, “Overall, for a school lunch it’s pretty good. They keep a pretty high standard.”
