Butera attended Eckerd college right out of high school, and then attend the University of Florida to get her doctoral degree. From there, she decided to become a pharmaceutical scientist, where she worked in a lab to create different forms of medicine.

When the opportunity to teach at LRHS came up, she instantly took the job. Butera has always been interested in teaching and regretted not becoming a teacher right out of college.

“Without the help from my teachers in science, I don’t think I would ever learn that science is my passion. I want to help kids learn why science is so important, and help students find their passions,” said Butera.

Butera is currently teaching physical science to freshmen but hopes to extend her teaching to more science related subjects.

According to Butera, “My first day here was very stressful. A lot of people, including my students, forgot that I have just come out of high school myself. It was like the first day of high school all over again.”

Butera came to the Ranch to take over the job left behind by former teacher Mark Napier, who now coaches track at IMG academy.

Butera said, “I’m nothing but grateful that the opportunity to teach here came up, I’ve had nothing but good experiences so far this year with my kids.”
