(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- LRHS athletics are an important part of education and have been a part of the school since day one. Some of the varsity sports offered here at LRHS include:

  • Volleyball (girls)
  • Football (co-ed)
  • Soccer (boys and girls)
  • Softball (girls)
  • Baseball (boys)
  • Swimming and diving (boys and girls)
  • Track and field (boys and girls)
  • Lacrosse (boys and girls)
  • Tennis (boys and girls)
  • Golf (boys and girls)
  • Cross-country (boys and girls)
  • Wrestling (co-ed)
  • Weight lifting (girls and boys)
  • Basketball (boys and girls).

Athletic director coach Shawn Trent said just under half the students who attend LRHS participate in athletics.

Junior Brooklyn Lucero, who is on the varsity softball team, said softball has had a positive impact on her education. “When you’re in class and you are faced with a challenge, softball has mentally prepared me to overcome that specific challenge,” said Lucero.

Senior varsity baseball player Grant McCray said athletics has affected his academic career by teaching him a valuable lesson. “Playing baseball through my years at Lakewood Ranch has taught me time management through balancing my classes, homework, and baseball, which will come in handy next year when I attend Florida State University.”

Baseball head coach Ryan Kennedy can speak from experience. He was a member of LRHS’s 2003 state champion baseball team.

“Athletics helps student athletes learn valuable life skills to carry over to their ultimate career when there playing career is over such as responsibility, time management, work ethic, and team work.”
