Sports(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- Saturday the LRHS cross country team attended FL Runners Invitational in Lakeland, FL.

The varsity girls’ and boys’ teams both qualified for race of champions – an elite, highly-competitive category. Individually, senior Johnny Reid placed seventh, only 20 seconds behind first place finisher.

Due to sickness and early injury, three varsity runners were unable to compete – juniors Ava Klein, Mason Ingallinera and Calvin Drake. With three runners out of the race, both varsity teams were unable to place.

Junior Mason Ingallinera described how it felt to not race, “I was really upset when I wasn’t able to race, we only have a couple races of the season left to improve and not being able to race sets me back. Not only that but I always have such a good time going to the meets and supporting the team, so it sucked not being able to race.”

Senior Gino Navas talked about his performance at the race. “I’m really happy with how I did this past weekend, after weeks of hard work I was finally able to get a PR. We’ve raced this event in the past, so I was able to recognize how far I was from the finish and use that to my advantage of when to speed up,” said Navas.
