(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- On Saturday the LRHS swim team won the Manatee County Championship meet. This is the second year in a row the Mustangs have claimed the County Champs title.

The swim meet started at 9 a.m. at the GT Bray Aquatic Center and ended around 1:30 p.m.

There were multiple first place winners, and some were even double event winners. On the boy’s side, Sebastian Aguirre won first place in the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke. For the girls Emily Loefgren placed first in the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard breaststroke.

Other first place winners are junior Emily Massengale, freshman Dimiter Zafirov, and senior Keely Radloff.

The Mustangs also scored big in their relays, winning first place in two out of three relays for both the boys and girls.

LRHS swim coaches Julie Santiago and Kyle Steinburg told the swimmers, “Congratulations, however, don’t settle. There is even more fast swimming in all of you. Stay focused!”

Many swimmers earned personal best times at this meet as well. Santiago said, “we must always celebrate our improvements in the pool, big and small and not always measured by time.”

The next meet will be held Saturday, Oct. 6 at the Sarasota YMCA. This meet will be the Tri-County Championship, where three local counties will compete against each other.
