Sports(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Friday the Lakewood Ranch Mustangs varsity football team went down to North Port to battle it out against the Bobcats. The Mustangs fell to the Bobcats 34-6.

With this loss, Lakewood Ranch falls to 0-6 on the season (0-2 in their district).

Head coach Christopher Culton said, “Obviously it is tough to start a year 0-6 and have positive things to say about a team but our guys try to overlook our struggles and play to the best of their ability. We do not have a game this week, so we are really going to try and focus on patching up some of our weak points. Starting tomorrow we will watch film and go from there to practice.

“It’s important that we keep our heads high and try to finish the season strong. With four games left we can still find a way to make improvements,” said Culton.

The Mustangs lone score came on a touchdown caught by senior wide receiver Cooper Coorley.

Senior tailback Drake Theriot feels even though the season is not going as he hoped, the team must work hard.

“Despite the fact that we are still winless, we have to keep practicing and working hard because there are still four games left in the season,” he said.

The Mustangs do not have a game this week but will face off against Palmetto at 7:30 on Oct. 12, at home.
