key club logo(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- The LRHS Key Club has taken part in many volunteer opportunities over the past few years. This month, they will be volunteering at the Lakewood Ranch “Stuff the Bus” event.

This annual event benefits The Food Bank of Manatee and nearly 50,000 people, including 18,000 children, living in Manatee County.

The event is a joint effort by the United Way Suncoast, Publix, iHeartMedia, the Manatee School District, and Mosaic.

It will be held at all 16 Publix stores around Manatee on Sept. 30 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

During “Stuff the Bus” shoppers at Manatee County Publix Super Markets donate non-perishable items for the food bank. The total, measured by weight, has steadily escalated through the past years. Last year’s final total was 78,471 cans of food in Manatee County alone.

“Stuff the Bus” also accepts school supplies. Many Suncoast students start the year off without the necessary supplies to be successful in school.  Pens, pencils, paper, notebooks, and binders are essential, so these items will also be collected.

With the help of Community Foundation of Sarasota, they will find students and other people in need of these supplies.

Key club members can still sign up for this event through the club website. The members will volunteer from 8:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Sept. 30 at the Publix on Lorraine Road and University Parkway.
