Gavin Laielli – Mustangs Ahead

Sports(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Last weekend, the LRHS cross country teams participated in the North Port Invitational at North Port High School.

The girls’ varsity team placed 10th out of 25 teams and the boys varsity placed 13th out of 23.

Junior Ava Klein finished 20th overall, and first for the Mustangs with a time of 20:02.

Leading the boys was senior Johnny Reid, finishing fourth with a time of 15:52 and breaking the previous school record of 15:54.

Coach Kristen Wikstrom said, “This meet was highly competitive, there were many teams and we had a great showing overall.”

Wikstrom added, “The team is steadily improving week by week achieving new heights which can lead us to states.”

Senior varsity runner James Duffy said, “I feel the team has been putting all the effort we can, and we have been working hard every day after school which will advance us to the next level.”

Sophomore Riley Bradshaw has high hopes in future meets. “Recently, I have been training harder and staying focused as I run. In the future, I expect faster times, hoping to break new records.”

Saturday, Sept. 29, the Mustangs will go to Holloway Park for the FLRunners Invitational.
