Sports(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Thursday night the LRHS volleyball Mustangs went to Braden River High School to battle out against their rivals, the Pirates.

The varsity girls lost their first match, but were motivated to win the next three matches, which they ended up doing. It was a great game and the ladies ended up taking home the win.

The freshman team played hard and went to three sets but in the end didn’t win going 1-2. The JV girls played next but lost in two games.

Freshman coach Smith Williams said, “Against Braden River we battled for every point, we took leads, got our serves over, and did everything we could to win the second set. We didn’t beat them yet, but I know we will! At the end of the day I will always be proud of all my girls do.”

Wednesday night, the LRHS girls volleyball team headed to Venice for their third district match of the year.

Freshmen played first, fighting hard, but lost in two sets. Junior varsity (JV) followed the freshmen, also fighting hard, but sadly lost in two sets as well. Varsity played last but lost in three sets.

Maddie Koczersut said, “We fought hard against Venice but sadly were unable to beat them. They were a great team and we tried all we could but, in the end, I am happy with how we performed. For our game against Braden River I was glad we were able to beat them.”

The next game is Monday, Sept. 13. The lady Mustangs are playing Sarasota High School here at the Ranch with freshman starting at 5 p.m. and JV and varsity following after.
