(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – On Saturday, Sept. 8, the LRHS Mustang swim team attended their first  meet of the season after the two previous meets were cancelled due to inclement weather.

The swimmers only got a few practices in to prepare for this meet. Even without a full week of practice, the Mustangs still performed well. The girls came in third place and the boys got fourth place.

The boys’ top finishers included senior Sebastian Aguirre, who earned first place in the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke. Freshman Dimiter Zafirov placed second in the 100-yard butterfly and 50-yard freestyle.

On the girl’s side, junior Emily Massengale placed second in the 100-yard backstroke and senior Emily Loefgren placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Coaches Julie Santiago and Kyle Steinberg complimented the swimmers at their next practice.

Santiago said, “Congratulations on a great first full meet of the season. I am so proud of all of you, especially given the amount of training we have been able to do with the weather.”

Saturday the Mustangs will travel to Punta Gorda for the Tarpon Invitational Meet and hope to place well.
