LRHS freshman Frank Runge plunges into teamwork

Freshman Frank Runge is one of two new boys and is looking for a strong start. Runge is 14 years old and has been swimming for five years.

He previously played baseball but switched to swimming because his mother said he had the body type of a swimmer.

Runge doesn’t practice with the actual Mustangs swim team, but he still puts in hard work every week with his club team. Runge said, “The few times I’ve been with the whole team this season has been very uplifting.”

The Mustangs first meet was on Sept. 8 at the Sarasota YMCA. The boys came in fourth and the girls placed third. The week leading up to this meet there was no practice for the Mustangs because of the weather.

“This was my very first high school meet ever so I was very excited and did well in my events,” said Runge.

As a freshman, Runge is new to not just the high school sports, but also the high school classes and experiences.

“I really like high school so far, and even though we’re only half way through the first quarter my grades are good,” Runge added.
