Emma Tullio wants to make a global difference

Girl Up will meet after school every second and fourth Wednesday of the month, starting this Wednesday, Sept. 12. in room 564.

The club was founded by sophomores Jessica Thompson and Emma Tulio. When researching ways to help their school and community the girls found this, an international club that partners with United Nations (UN) programs to promote the health, safety, education, and leadership in developing communities.

Tullio said, “Jessica and I wanted to make a difference in the lives of girls around the world and this way a way for us to do it.”

This international club is not only intended for girls, so it is open to all. The name of the club is “Girl Up” because its main purpose is to aid girls who need support in developing countries and do not have access to things we take for granted.

It supports and funds programs with the UN that educate refugee girls, prevent child marriages and teen pregnancy, and much more. Girl Up focuses on countries such as Ethiopia, Guatemala, India, Liberia, Malawi, and Uganda.

Girl Up will offer its members volunteer opportunities helping Mustangs earn community service hours, donate, and much more to reach their goals.
