(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- The LRHS robotic program is building a robotics lab in technology teacher Ben Long’s room.

The lab is to be used primarily for VEX Robotics and the Technology Students Association (TSA). The funding for the lab was raised by the robotics students themselves.

The robotics program has grown considerably. Last year, the program consisted of one class period and this year it has grown to four class periods.

Long said the heavy growth is due to the lifting of the Applied Engineering Technology 1 prerequisite. This gives students the ability to take Foundations of Robotics freely. This also will allow freshman to take Foundations of Robotics.

Long said that this change will “redesign the program.”

The program’s first meeting will be held today, Aug. 29, after school in room 409.
