(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- LRHS dual enrollment students begin their State College of Florida (SCF) classes this week.
Over 200 Lakewood Ranch seniors are a part of the dual enrollment program.
Students attending SCF filter classes into their schedule here at LRHS. Classes and textbooks for dual enrollment students are paid in full by the high school.
LRHS assistant principal Dr. Melinda Lundy said dual enrollment is an important part of the school’s curriculum.
LRHS offers numerous dual-enrollment classes available to be taken right here at the high school.
“We [LRHS] offer three content areas for Dual Enrollment courses: English (Written Communications I and Written Communications II), social studies (U.S. History to 1877 and U.S. History 1877 to Present), and math (College Algebra, Precalculus, Trigonometry),” said Lundy.
“There are different routes students can take to pursue advanced studies on campus’” she continued. “The Dual Enrollment courses offered are geared more toward general education requirements, whereas Advanced Placement courses have a wider range of offerings with some geared toward a specific major.”
Part-time SCF student and LRHS senior, Julia Drymon said, “I’m getting college credits towards my AA [Associates of Arts degree] and getting classes out of the way now.”
