Mikaela Campbell and Tanna Cochrane – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Despite what many Mustangs may think, there is no volunteer/community service requirement for graduation. However, many clubs around the school and the Bright Futures scholarships require volunteer hours.
LRHS community service applications are available in the school guidance office and on the school website. The form must be filled out completely. It is recommended to get an application pre-approved before completing any hours. Once the form is completed, there is drop off box in the guidance office.
Mustangs can volunteer at local non-profit organizations such as The Red Cross. On campus, groups such as Lakewood Leaders and Key Club offer students volunteering opportunities.
Volunteer activities must be unpaid for a non-profit organization, and students can’t get credit for more than eight hours a day.
According to the LRHS community service guidelines, “Students may do more than one service project. It is the student’s responsibility to know the deadline for submission of volunteer service hours.”
