(LAKEWOOD RANCH FLORIDA) – The LRHS boys’ basketball team can reflect on a very busy summer.

Their summer consisted of two or three practices a week, four days of lifting weights, and a team camp every weekend in June.

LRHS head basketball coach Jeremy Schiller said, “I think it went really well. I thought all the guys on the team committed to the program and improved. Some players improved more than others but overall it was good summer.”

For the first time in a while, the team had to struggle through a significant number of injuries. Junior Keon Buckley struggled with a back injury that prevented him from playing all summer. Senior Lantz Barton fought a recurring ankle injury.

Schiller said he doesn’t think the injures will affect the regular season at all.

“Anytime a player can’t participate because of an injury obviously isn’t an ideal situation, but in our program, we work hard enough to where it won’t make a huge difference in the regular season,” said Schiller.

Buckley reflected on his injury.

“Being injured was rough, especially watching my team play without me,” he said. “I played a lot of Fortnite, but it also made me hungrier for the upcoming season. I’m going to work as hard as I can and make sure I bounce back strong.”

The boys won most of their games this summer, beating some of the best teams in the state of Florida, and once again established that they will be a force to be reckoned with.
