Madison Aker – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Today was the first LRHS blood drive of the 2018-2019 school year and over 150 LRHS students signed up to donate.
Rebekah Lester, keyboard instructor at LRHS who helps run the blood drive, said, “So far I am very happy with the outcome. It has been very organized. Our team met last week, and we have done a great job of getting the word out with over 100 students signing up. We have a strong leadership this year and I can’t wait for the future donations.”
LRHS blood drive club co-vice president Izabella Sellmer, senior, said she’s happy to help organize the event.
“I just wanted to help out with the community,” she said. “I can’t give blood for medical reasons, so being a part of the organization is a way that I can help contribute.”
LRHS junior Ariana Otero was a first time blood donor.
“I was nervous at first,” she said, “but the nurses were so nice and kept an eye on how everyone was feeling. At first the experience felt intimidating, but every drop counts so I would definitely donate again.”
Blood drive committee communications director, Chris Georgas, junior, went around the school putting up posters to help spread the word.
“To help volunteer you can text @2018blood to 81010,” he said.
The next scheduled LRHS blood drive is scheduled for Oct. 26.
