(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- Wednesday night Mustang girls softball lost to Oakleaf High School in the state semi-final 1-0.

HT Prep Softball player of the year Avery Goelz said, “We fought hard, it wasn’t the outcome we wanted but we didn’t go without a fight. We were happy to play our last game with our seniors; we are going to miss them all. ”

The LRHS softball team successfully beat Pinellas Park, Hillsborough East Lake and Plant City in regional games leading up to the State Semi-finals.

Head coach TJ Goelz told HT Prep mistakes hurt the Mustangs.

“First inning was a little bit of jitters,” coach Goelz said. “We dropped a ball here, passed ball there, give them extra chances to score. Payton Kinney was overthrowing, maybe a little juiced up. That first inning could have been much worse. We were conceding the first run. I just didn’t want a big inning.”

Freshman Faith Ross is optimistic about next year, “We all worked very hard and it was a close game. We had many base runners, but unfortunately, we came one hit short. But now it’s time to look forward and work on getting better so next year we will be back stronger than ever.”
