LRHS social studies teacher Andrew Mappes was a late addition to the school faculty

Mappes moved here after spring break to fill teaching positions in human geography and world history.

Before arriving at LRHS, Mappes taught both high school and middle school in Indianapolis.

“I love it here,” Mappes said. “I think the students are very good and respectful. The administration is also awesome and the school is really well organized.”

Mappes has been teaching for 22 years and is looking forward to many more years here at the Ranch.

“I am really looking forward to the new school year. I hope to build a stronger connection with my students,” he added.

Comparing his old school to the Ranch, Mappes said, “Expectations are higher here at Lakewood Ranch and the administration seems to be really positive.”

Mappes said he has always wanted to live in Florida. He had been looking for a job here for many years and when this one opened he couldn’t pass up the opportunity.

When he is not teaching, Mappes enjoys running, hunting, fishing, and working out. In previous years he has helped coach sports teams and hopes to be able to lend a hand next year doing the same.
