Rachel Latka- Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- The Sarasota-Herald Tribune’s HT Preps program is scheduled to recognize many outstanding Mustang athletes at Monday’s annual HT Preps banquet. The newspaper will recognize outstanding athletes from throughout the school year.
Meanwhile, HT Preps this weekend recognized several Mustangs as outstanding Spring athletes.
In baseball, HT Preps named LRHS senior Pablo Garabitos finalist for player of the year. Garabitos had a .402 average with 19 runs batted in, 18 runs scored, and a .465 on-base percentage.
Sophomore Avery Goelz was a finalist for the HT Preps best in softball. She is a first baseman with a .521 average and .585 on-base percentage.
In the spring 2018 all-area girls track and field division, senior Karen Lyvers was a player of the year finalist. She won the pole vault competition at the Class 4A state meet and won the Class 4A-Region 2 pole vault with a vault of 12-4 and the 100-meter hurdles in 14.44.
Senior Harry Barthelemy and junior James Rivera were chosen as player of the year finalists in the spring 2018 all-area boys track and field. Barthelemy won the Class 4A-Region 2 long jump and Rivera won the Class 4A 300-meter hurdles at the state meet.
The HT Prep has also chose the first team all-area in every Spring sport.

- Honorable Mentions went to Mustangs Gray Ellis and John Schroeder.
The coach of the year for spring all-area softball is T.J Goelz
First team in softball:
- Senior Mogan Cummins
- Sophomore Payton Kinney
- Sophomore Brooklyn Lucero
- Honorable Mentions went out to Maddie Koczersut and Taylor Woodring.
HT Preps named LRHS’s Mark Napier coach of the year in both boys and girls track.
The first team in girls track and field includes:
- Sophomore Ava Klein
- Senior Shaleiya Lee
- Senior Morgan Lingle
- Sophomore Samantha Van Der Sommen
- Julianne Dillon and Riley Simmons were also recognized as Honorable Mentions.
The first team in boys track and field includes these mustangs:
- Senior Andrew Dean
- Senior Nicholas Napier
- Senior Noah Oxley
- Junior Jonathan Reid
- Honorable Mentions for boy’s track and field included Drew Butler, Adam Scott, and Kyle Wray.
Noah Ben Ghuzzi was Honorable Mention all-area in boys weightlifting.
