(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) has released the results for the Academic Team Champion Awards Program.

According to the FHSAA website, “The FHSAA Academic Team Champion recognition program honors teamwork not only in competition, but in the classroom as well.” The program focuses on student athlete grade point averages.

LRHS placed second in Class 8A, with a total of 118 points. LRHS was 22 points behind the winning team from Tampa Plant High School.

To be eligible for nomination, each school team must have an average of a 3.0 GPA and commit to participate in a FHSAA state series competition.

The school that receives the highest number of cumulative points in each class receives a special award at the end of the school year

Individual Mustang teams ranked as followed-

  • Flag football- 13th with a 3.66 average GPA
  • Softball- 2nd with a 3.544 average GPA
  • Boy’s Tennis- 4th with a 3.707 average GPA
  • Girl’s Tennis- 9th with a 3.81 average GPA
  • Boy’s Track- 3rd with a 3.531 average GPA
  • Girl’s Track- 7th with a 3.607 average GPA
  • Boy’s Weightlifting- 2nd with a 3.511 average GPA
