(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- Last October, LRHS social studies teacher Jacob Sponsel transferred to a dean position, opening a spot for former USF intern Nadia Matijasevic.

As her first year at LRHS ends, Matijasevic described what she’s learned and experienced so far.

“I’ve learned so much and I’m thankful for all experiences whether good or bad,” she said. “I’ve learned that you’ve got to keep it moving. What works in one class or for one student may not work for the next and the only thing you can do is to try your best, reflect, and adapt.

“I’m surprised by all of the support I have received from the entire staff as my internship was very different. This is a first-year teacher’s dream job!”

Freshman Natalie Heim described Matijasevic’s teaching, “I love the way she explains the lessons, she doesn’t just give us notes. Instead we do videos, class activities, PowerPoints and if we ever have trouble understanding she always explains it more in depth to where we can comprehend it better.”

Freshman Carley Odneal shares her class experience, “Mrs. Matijasevic relates to us more than the rest of the teachers I have, she makes class so much more exciting with all the fun activities that we do that it doesn’t even feel like learning.”
