(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- Tuesday night, the LRHS softball team took on the East Lake High School Eagles in a regional semifinal matchup. Both teams entered the game with 23-4 records, however, the Mustangs emerged victorious with a final score of 7-0.

Junior Madi Schaefer commented on the win, “The game was amazing last night, and everyone came out with some fire. We are ready to take it to the next level.”

One of the highlights from the game was sophomore pitcher Payton Kinney’s seven inning complete shutout. Kinney allowed seven hits and struck out nine.

Sophomore Avery Goelz and senior Olivia Danko also made two defensive plays that helped the Mustangs to victory. Goelz snared a rocket line drive that doubled off a runner at first while Danko dove to make a successful catch in the seventh inning.

With this win the team will advance to the regional final against Plant City High School on Friday, May 11.

Schaefer added, “I think we are definitely ready for Friday. We have practiced for the whole season and I think we are ready.”
