(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)-  Tuesday night, the LRHS varsity baseball team defeated St. Petersburg High School 1-0 in the regional quarterfinal.

Senior Pablo Garabitos pitched seven scoreless innings, surrendering two hits to the visiting Green Devils.

“It felt good to go out there and get the win. I just focused on hitting my spots and keeping the ball low. In the end, the guys came through and scratched a run across to keep our season alive,” said Garabitos.

With no outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, sophomore Noe Antuna hit a double down the right field line. Then, freshman John Schroeder came up clutch with a walk-off single into left field.

“I was looking for a good pitch to hit and just thinking about putting the ball hard, in play, and try to get that run in. I tried to wait back and relax as much as I could. When I got the hit, all I could think about was getting ready for our next game. I know the rest of the team is excited and ready to compete against Sarasota to continue our run for a state championship,” said Schroeder.

After the win, head coach Ryan Kennedy had nothing but good things to say. “That’s our fourth win in a row. I hope the guys can keep their energy up and keep the momentum going in the next game. With the way we are playing, this is our best shot to win a state championship.”

The Mustangs are set to face Sarasota in the regional semifinal at 7 p.m. next Tuesday, May 15.
