(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- On Wednesday the LRHS HOSA chapter is holding officer elections for the 2018-19 school year. All members are expected to meet in the auditorium on Wednesday, May 9 to vote for the officer candidates.

Those who are running for an office must turn in an application to Adviser Carol Lidey, by Tuesday, May 8.

All candidates must be current HOSA members who have attended over half of the past year’s meetings. Additionally, the 2018-19 officers are required to compete at the regional level and, if possible, in State and National competitions.

Lidey already has plans for next year’s HOSA chapter.

“I think that one of our main purposes is to rebrand HOSA next year so that we can grow from the base up. We need to have more creativity and interest whether members are competing or not,” she stated.

This plan relies heavily on the student officers, who Lidey believes are responsible for encouraging their peers to participate in HOSA and HOSA sponsored activities.

Most of all, next year’s chapter will aim to inform kids about careers in the medical field that appeal to their interests.

Lidey cites art as a perfect example of a hobby that can be crucial to a career in medicine.

“Art students who don’t think they have any future in the medical field could one day design logos for health-related companies, such as those in pharmaceuticals or medical technology,” Lidey stated.

2017-18 HOSA Historian sophomore Nicolette Ngov has a positive outlook for next year’s chapter.

“Next year’s HOSA will change for the better. I think we will have more members and a larger presence in the school and student body,” Ngov stated.
