(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Two LRHS Mustangs experienced the thrill of state championship victory last weekend.

Last Friday the LRHS varsity track team travelled to University of North Florida to compete in the state track and field championships.  Four Mustangs placed top five in their events with two taking home first place victories.

Senior Karen Lyvers placed first in pole vaulting and junior James Rivera took first in 300 hurdles.

Lyvers cleared the bar with a winning vault of 12 feet, 4 inches.  Rivera led the track with a finishing time of 37.14 seconds.

Rivera commented on his success, “It went really well and the outcome of it is exactly what I had been hoping for. I got seventh place in the 110 hurdles, but I messed up towards the end of the race. Luckily, I just got myself back together and went out and killed it in the 300 hurdles to take first. I’m just happy to be where I am from all the work I put in.”

LRHS seniors Andrew Dean, Kyle Wray, Adam Scott and junior Jonathan Reid placed fourth in the 4×800 relay, and Reid placed second in the mile run.
